Still Struggling

The hunt for a professional world job has been soul crushing the last few weeks and I’ve been really struggling with creativity, especially in the writing space. I’ve been doing what I can to buck that trend, including consuming other media. If you haven’t read William Gibson’s work, and you’re a cyberpunk fan, I strongly suggest going back and at least covering the Sprawl Trilogy. I just wrapped up Count Zero earlier this week and it was a very impactful read that’s especially relevant to the world’s quickly evolving relationship with AI and large learning models'.

In other, actual creative news, I’ve been working on drawing more, and I’ve recently started work learning pen and ink drawing skills. I still have a long way to go, but so far, I’m happy with the results. It’s a different kind of creativity, using only black and white and using various pen strokes and layering to get to the desired textures and light volumes. It’s also made me think more about the way I paint minis and how I work with volumes on models, which is a nice perk that I hadn’t expected.

Anyway, my advice to anyone else working on their own projects in today’s hectic and stressful world is to do what you can where you can. Be kind to people, work on things when you have the inspiration, and do what brings you joy. It’s a hard thing to find in the world right now.

I’ll get back to the game writing stuff sooner than later, I promise.
